Beavertail Oyster on Dark Background

This is a new series that I am working on and very excited about. Single subject matter on a dark blended background which is a node to the works of the "old masters" of oil painting. This canvas does have a previous paint under the gessoed canvas. Recycling canvas is not uncommon with working artist. The benefit shows is raised edges and relief in the background and center of the oyster. This piece is a study in browns and shades of Naples Yellow. This is a deep departure from my usual pallet of ocean blues. My eyes have enjoyed the change of color.                                                                                                                                                           

My inspiration is from my sister, Tracy Wilkins. She is a true oyster lover and foodie. Tracy also collects oyster paintings and has some of the best works from well known painters who choose oysters as their subjects, like Mark Adams. I thought that I would try my hand at the subculture of oyster art for my sister Tracy. Being so pleased with the result, I now find myself flowing into the society of oyster artist. This work, "Beavertail Oyster on Dark Background" is the first painting in a series of six paintings that I am currently working on. The next piece is the same size ( 24 x 24) and is two thirds in completion and will be finished by April 2017.
